The Green Infrastructure of KotaSAS
Kuantan, Pahang
Client: KotaSAS Sdn Bhd
Landscape Architect:

The green infrastructure initiative of KotaSAS embodies a regenerative approach to landscape development. Once marked by extensive bauxite mining and ecological degradation, the land has been revitalised through a visionary strategy that combines heritage, sustainability, and community. Rows of preserved oil palm trees pay homage to the site’s plantation legacy, while native vegetation creates ecological corridors that restore biodiversity, reduce surface heat, and enhance livability.
The project integrates Nature-based Solutions through rain gardens, bioswales, and retention ponds, forming a resilient stormwater system that mitigates flooding and supports groundwater recharge. Degraded soils were revived using organic amendments like compost, biochar, coconut fibre, and gypsum, while lime and dolomite corrected extreme pH imbalances—laying the groundwork for lush, sustainable growth. Phytoremediation and green infrastructure elements, including vegetated bioswales and permeable walkways, contribute to a self-sustaining ecological framework.
